We have always strongly invested in research and development, and this has become our competitive edge..
We value the people that work with us, their ideas, their research work, the ability to innovate in making our products and to constantly improve them.
In this fast-paced world, especially in metropolitan areas, skin is continuously exposed to pollutants, UV radiation and other environmental agents that can make it sensitive and over-reactive.
We have always tackled these issues with strong research and development, based in-house, in our own dedicated laboratories. Our R&D keeps up-to-date with the latest cosmetology research and liaises with our product development team (Marketing), with key opinion leaders (dermatologists, pediatricians, hair experts, gynaecologists, aesthetic doctors), with pharmacists and with the end users.
OUR RESEARCH
OUR TESTS
The strong research work we perform in our labs is also supported by qualified third-party testing laboratories and University-based dermatological research unit we co-operate with, through our highly qualified R&D staff, to carry out testing to check quality and safety of raw materials and, subsequently, safety and effectiveness of our finished products by means of strict in vitro testing and clinical trials.
In the development phase, the formulations are tested on a advanced tridimensional skin model which replicates features and reactions of human skin, in comformity with current regulations on cosmetics that require such testing. This testing method does not testing on animals.
The adoption of these "alternative" product testing methods by BioNike, as early as the year 2000, once again shows the company's commitment towards developing quality, innovative, reliable formulations and emphasises the company's ethics and awareness towards the latest technology available.
Only formulations that meet the basic in vitro tolerability requirements are cleared for further development and undergo IN VIVO tolerability testing, that is patch testing on informed volunteers.
In certain cases, products are also tested on subjects with sensitive skin, to show they are specifically suitable for sensitive skin as well.
As for testing product effectiveness, we carry out both in vitro and in vivo testing, selected according to type of product and the effectiveness parameters being investigated.
Thus, the regular testing we carry out on our products includes:
- in vitro skin tolerability testing performed on a skin model that replicates the features and reactions of human skin
- in vivo tolerability testing (patch test), also on subjects with sensitive skin
- instrumental and dermatologist-supervised in vivo testing
- product usage test on volunteers to assess the perceived product pleasantness upon use
The aforesaid testing is carried out to ensure we offer high-quality, innovative, reliable formulations to end users all the time.
In vitro testing
We have pioneered in vitro testing and had established effective testing methods long before proper regulations were developed to regulate such testing. We achieved this through strong investments aimed at developing IN VITRO TESTING to perform preliminary tests to assess product tolerability and safety.

In vivo clinical testing
Rigorous, cosmetic-clinical tests, performed on healthy volunteers at qualified testing facilities and university-based testing facilities and always under dermatological supervision, allow to certify the excellent tolerability and effectiveness of BioNike products.
In certain cases, products are also tested on subjects with sensitive skin, to show they are specifically suitable for sensitive skin as well.
